Overview of nocturia in frail and elderly patients by Prof. Karel Everaert

2018-08-16

In many frail and elderly patients, nocturia is not caused by a single etiology, but by different conditions – this makes its management more difficult in this population. Nevertheless, treatment is important as nocturia has a strong negative impact on quality of life and self-esteem. Prof. Everaert provides recommendations for assessing nocturia and comorbidities in elderly patients. He discusses options for treatment and management, such as behaviour modifications and desmopressin therapy, as well as the importance of monitoring elderly patients who receive desmopressin. Due to the high prevalence of comorbidities in this patient population, patient-tailored therapy is particularly important.
