Prof. Marcus Drake discusses current trends in nocturia diagnosis and treatment

2018-08-16

The progress in nocturia has been quite radical recently. It is increasingly recognized that nocturia is multi-factorial and that its evaluation is dependent on a proper symptom assessment and the use of a frequency volume chart. Prof. Drake discusses new aspects with regard to nocturia, such as the role of salt intake and the importance of understanding sleep patterns, and reviews current treatment options: behavioural management and desmopressin which is now also available in new formulations. Furthermore, there are signs that medication for treating lower urinary tract symptoms might reduce – at least partly – the severity of nocturia. Prof. Drake also talks about the innovative work on nocturia that was presented at the EAU 2015 and includes interesting basic science work.
