Urinary incontinence after prostate surgery is nearly universal, with men often told to expect recovery over 6–12 months. This prolonged period affects quality of life, emotional health, and return to work. Accelerating recovery could improve outcomes and reduce healthcare burden. Neuromuscular stimulation can aid continence recovery, but traditional delivery via anal probe is intrusive and poorly tolerated. Elitone, an FDA-cleared perineal-applied device for women with stress and urge incontinence, has treated 30,000+ patients and is Medicare-covered. The new Elitone for Men incorporates a male-specific electrode to deliver the same stimulation externally, avoiding internal probes. This study evaluated its safety, usability, and efficacy following prostate surgery.
A prospective, IRB-approved case series enrolled men before or shortly after radical prostatectomy. Baseline evaluation occurred one week after catheter removal; treatment began 4–5 weeks post-surgery. • 20-minute home sessions, 5×/week for 12 weeks. • Pre-modulated 50Hz/10Hz stimulation cycles with rest, inducing strong but comfortable pelvic contractions. • Daily logs recorded treatment, leaks, pad use, and bathroom visits. • Outcome measures: 24-hour pad weight, leaks, pad use, and Incontinence Quality of Life (I-QoL) scores at 12 weeks. • Compliance verified by onboard memory.
Of 20 men enrolled, 16 completed treatment with verified use. • 24-Hour Pad Weight: Leakage fell 61% at Week 6 and 78% at Week 12. • Stress Leaks: Reduced 61% at Week 6 and 82% at Week 12. • Quality of Life: I-QoL improved 20.9 ±18.5 points at Week 6. • Satisfaction: 100% reported satisfaction and willingness to recommend. • Usability: Confirmed suitable for unsupervised home use. • Safety: No adverse events reported.
Outcomes of Elitone for Men parallel the original Elitone for women, which achieved a 72% reduction in leaks/day in its pivotal trial. Prior studies showed that internal stimulation accelerates post-prostatectomy recovery. Elitone for Men delivers equivalent parameters through an external perineal electrode, eliminating the invasiveness barrier and improving acceptance. These results highlight Elitone for Men as a convenient, at-home therapy that promotes rapid continence recovery, meaningful quality-of-life gains, and greater post-surgical confidence.
